Set a channel's languages, tone of voice and rules

Add a language and know what it costs, choose or create a tone of voice, ban words and set writing rules.

A channel’s languages, tone and rules apply to all its generations. They are set on the Languages & tone and Channel rules pages.

Languages

  1. Open the channel, then Languages & tone.
  2. Click Add language and choose it.
  3. Check the Primary language: it serves as the reference for translations and publishing.

When you add a language, Marcus offers to generate that language for the products already generated on the channel. Answer “Yes, right now” or “Later”.

The cost of languages

Each additional language costs two thirds of the first, rounded up to the next credit. A page costing 9 credits in its first language therefore costs 6 credits per extra language. The proposal card details this Additional language discount.

Tone of voice

  • Choose a tone provided by Upsellr, or create your own with Create private tone: a name and a description of the expected style.
  • A private tone belongs to your organization and can be reused on several channels.
  • Apply these settings to lets you keep the same tone for all languages or change it for just one.
  • If no tone is chosen, the account’s default tone applies.

Forbidden words

In Forbidden words, enter the words to ban, separated by commas. They will not appear in the generated content.

Channel rules

In Channel rules, the Custom instructions area takes free-form rules that Max follows for each of the channel’s fields. One rule per line, with Add a rule. Example: “Always include the manufacturer reference in the title”.

Good to know

  • If your connected store creates its products in one language, that language is the channel’s primary language and cannot be changed. If the channel lacks it, publishing fails.
  • These settings apply to the next generations. Existing product pages only change after a regeneration.
  • Channel rules are about writing product pages. Marcus’s behavior rules are set elsewhere, in Agent, then Rules.
