Manage technical specifications and taxonomy
Create a channel's characteristics, link them to its categories, set their requirement and send them to your store.
Technical specifications describe what a product measures: material, weight, power… The taxonomy says which characteristics apply to which categories.
Common or by category
Open the channel, then Characteristics and taxonomy. Two views:
- Common: the characteristics that apply to all the channel’s products;
- By category: those linked to one or more categories.
Link each characteristic only to the categories it concerns. A shoe size requested for an eraser stays an empty box that clutters the page. Upsellr flags the characteristics that have no link with your categories.
Types and values
Each characteristic has a Type: Text, Number, Boolean, Enum, Date, Image, Video, File, Color or JSON. You can also give it:
- a Unit;
- the Multi-value option, with a separator;
- a list of allowed values, in List mode or in Text mode (one value per line);
- translations for each of the channel’s languages.
Requirement
A characteristic’s Requirement is Legal, Required, Recommended or Optional. Set requirement per category applies it to several categories at once. The requirement feeds the completeness of the product pages in the Products grid.
With a connected store
- Review the taxonomy from followed by the platform’s name, then Read the shop, picks up what has changed on the store side.
- Create missing fields in the shop creates or links in the store the characteristics that do not exist there yet.
Good to know
- Changing a characteristic’s type deletes its existing values and affects every category that uses it.
- Removing an inherited characteristic also removes it from the original category and all its subcategories.
- Characteristics are set here, not in the page template: the page uses them as they are.
- During channel creation, Detect my taxonomy analyzes 50 products per category of your store, without consuming any credits.
