What is a channel?
The role of a channel in Upsellr, what it sets for your product pages and how it differs from the master data.
A channel is a destination for your product pages: your Shopify or PrestaShop store, or a file you retrieve on demand. Each channel carries its own presentation rules.
Master data and channels
The master data holds your products’ data, once, for the whole account. A channel decides how that data becomes a product page:
- its categories;
- its technical specifications and how they are linked to the categories;
- its product page template;
- its languages, its tone of voice and its rules;
- its export: file or publishing to the store.
Max then generates each channel’s content from the master data. The same product can therefore have a different page on each channel (see generating product pages).
The Channels page
Open Settings, then Channels. The list shows each channel’s Connection, its number of Products and the date it was last changed. A badge flags a channel that is “Setup in progress”, “Disabled” or with “No connection”.
Open a channel to see its Overview. It gives access to:
- General: name, type, store address, logo, accent color;
- Languages & tone and Channel rules;
- Status;
- Categories and Characteristics and taxonomy;
- Template and Export;
- Generated products.
Good to know
- A channel without a connection works: its product pages go out by file export.
- A channel’s type can no longer be changed after it is created.
- The number of connected stores depends on your plan: 1 with Free and Core, 3 with Scale, unlimited with Enterprise. See our plans.
- Marketplaces are not available as a destination yet.
- To create your first channel, see create a channel.
