DIY and tools

In store, the expert answers.
Online, the page does.

Battery included or not, drilling into concrete, compatibility with the batteries the customer already owns: in store, a sales assistant answers in ten seconds. Upsellr writes product pages that answer just as well, with the manufacturer’s figures, across your whole catalog.

01The aisle’s challenges

What makes buyers hesitate,
and what makes them return.

DIY is one of the most technical categories in e-commerce. Six situations your customers run into every day, and what Upsellr does about them.

  1. Cordless tools01

Bare tool, with battery or in a kit?

The same drill is sold bare, with one battery or as a full kit. If the page doesn’t say so, the customer orders the wrong model and sends it back.

  2. The whole aisle02

    18 V, 18 volts or 18V Li-ion

Every supplier writes its values its own way. Your filters stop finding anything and two identical tools look different.

  3. Paint and household03

A tin of paint isn’t described like a drill

Every family has the figures that drive the purchase: torque for a driver, coverage and drying time for a paint.

  4. Batteries and accessories04

    Compatible with what?

A battery, a drill bit or a blade only sells if the customer knows it fits what they already own. These compatibilities are rarely in the supplier file.

  5. Tools, chemicals, electrical05

Manuals, declarations and safety data sheets

A tool has its manual and its CE declaration, a glue or a solvent its safety data sheet. Customers look for them, professionals require them.

    On your page

  6. The sector’s marketplaces06

ManoMano, Leroy Merlin: their rules, not yours

Every DIY marketplace has its own categories, mandatory attributes and value lists. An incomplete listing doesn’t go live.

02The DIY library

Everything a DIY product page needs,
ready to go.

Upsellr gives you a library built for DIY: the aisle’s product families, each family’s technical attributes with their units and value lists, and the fields that make up a product page in the sector. Your DIY channel starts with it, with nothing to model.

  • 10product families
  • 61technical attributes
  • 34ready-made value lists
  • 4page fields, each with its instructions

Your channel receives the sector library: its families, their characteristics and their value lists.

The sector’s page template arrives with its sections, each with its own expert instructions.

Every generated page follows this template, with your product’s data.

03The aisle’s tone

Figures
instead of adjectives.

Technical and factual, focused on use, expert yet accessible: the reader wants to know whether the product will do the job.

This powerful, versatile drill will make your life so much easier! Perfect for all your projects, it’ll soon become indispensable.

54 Nm of torque: wood and metal alike. 13 mm keyless chuck, to change bits without a key. Brushless motor that doesn’t overheat on long runs.

Do

  • Figures instead of adjectives
  • The trade’s vocabulary: chuck, clutch, coverage
  • What the reader will do with the product
  • Manufacturer data presented as such

Avoid

  • Superlatives and exclamation marks
  • Promises that can’t be measured
  • Any value missing from the sources

Your questions.
Straight answers.

What you need to know before you start.

Can Upsellr tell whether a tool is sold bare or as a kit?

Yes. The enrichment agent finds what’s in the box on the manufacturer’s side (bare tool, battery, charger, carry case) and the page states it from the title onwards. If the information is missing, it isn’t made up.

Are safety data sheets handled?

Yes. The master data gathers the product’s documents: manual, declaration of conformity, safety data sheet. Each channel page receives the ones that help the customer and the ones the channel requires.

I also sell on ManoMano or Leroy Merlin: how does that work?

Each marketplace listing is written to the channel’s rules: category, mandatory attributes, value lists. Connectors are on their way; in the meantime, the listing exports in the marketplace’s template.

What happens when a technical value is missing?

Nothing is made up: the enrichment agent looks for the value on the manufacturer’s side and in the manuals, and the page only quotes figures that are in the product’s data.

My store already has its categories: what happens to the sector library?

It’s a starting point while your store can’t be read yet. As soon as your store or your PIM is connected, your own categories apply, and you can add your own attributes.
