Manage a channel's categories
Edit a channel's category tree, send it to your store and delete a category without unpleasant surprises.
Each channel has its own category tree. Max files your products in it at generation time.
Edit the tree
- Open the channel, then Categories.
- The tree is edited level by level. Click Add to create a category at the level shown.
- A category’s menu lets you Rename or delete it.
- Select a category to see its details: name, description, state and number of products. For a connected store, Fetch from the shop takes its description from there.
Sync with your store
When the channel is linked to a store, each category carries a Synced or Not synced mark. To create in the store the categories it is missing, click Send to followed by the platform’s name, for example Send to Shopify.
Products already published join their new categories at their next publication.
On Shopify, your categories become collections, and only after this click.
Delete a category
- Deletion is refused as long as the category contains products or subcategories, in Upsellr as in the store.
- The linked products are not deleted: they only lose this category.
- PrestaShop: the category is also deleted from the store. This deletion is permanent.
- Shopify: the collection is kept. Upsellr never deletes a collection: remove it in Shopify if you no longer want it.
Good to know
- A product’s category on the channel is chosen by Max at generation time (see generating product pages).
- On PrestaShop, a redirect entered on a category is saved in Upsellr but does not redirect any visitor: PrestaShop has no such setting. Apply it wherever you manage your redirects.
- The characteristics specific to each category are set in characteristics and taxonomy.
