Make a field required, for the whole catalog or by category
Set a field's default requirement level, then add exceptions for certain categories.
Each master data field has a requirement level. It says whether the field must be filled in for a product to be considered complete. You set it for the whole catalog, then you can adapt it category by category.
The default level
- Open Settings, Master data, then Field management.
- Select the field.
- In the Requirement card, choose the Default (global) level: Required or Optional.
This level applies to all products.
Add an exception by category
The same field can be required for one product family and optional for the others. For example, the composition for pet food, but not for accessories.
- In the Requirement card, click Add an exception.
- Choose the Level to apply.
- Tick the categories concerned. Filter… finds a category by its name, and Select unset ticks all those that do not have an exception yet.
- Click Apply to N categories.
Each exception is shown under the default level, with the category and its level. Hover over it to see the category’s full path.
Browse a category’s fields
In the Scope column, choose By category, then go down the category tree. Back to parent level goes up one notch. You see the fields specific to the category, and the global fields grayed out under Inherited (global).
What a required field changes
- In the grid, its header carries the Required field label.
- In completeness, it counts in the identity part. If it is missing, the bar turns red, even with a high score.
Good to know
- A field marked Legal or Recommended keeps that level until you change it: the list then only offers that level, Required and Optional.
