Understand master data

Why all your product data goes through a single reference, and how it feeds each of your channels.

The master data is your account’s product reference: the single source where each product’s data is stored, whatever its origin. Everything your channels display is produced from it.

What it contains

For each product: its identity (name, brand, EAN, SKU, MPN), its description, its technical specifications, its images and its documents. The fields are shared across the whole catalog, with fields specific to a category where needed. Your products can therefore be compared, filtered and completed in the same way.

Where the data comes from

  • Your file imports (spreadsheets, PDF catalogs).
  • Your connected platforms.
  • What you enter in the grid or on the product page.
  • Enrichment, carried out by Lily: she fills in the master data from the web, images and documents (EAN, brand, specifications, images, documents).

Each value keeps its origin, visible on the product page and in the history.

How it feeds your channels

Generation, carried out by Max, starts from the master data to write the content of each channel: title, descriptions, FAQ, SEO, category. Data corrected in the master data therefore benefits all your channels at the next generation.

You do not chat directly with Lily or Max: your requests go through Marcus, who hands them the work.

Where to find it

  • In Products, the Master Data system view shows its columns, without the channels’ columns.
  • On a product’s page, the Master Data view shows all its data.
  • In Settings, the Master data entry gives access to Field management, Data governance and a Products list limited to the master data fields.

Good to know

  • The master data Products list shows the global fields that are not hidden. A hidden field does not appear there, but its data is kept.
  • The field structure is set in manage master data fields.
  • A value validated by hand or generated is never overwritten by an import.
