Choose which value to keep when two sources disagree

Set your master data's default conflict behavior in Data governance.

When two sources bring different values for the same field, the master data needs to know which one to keep. Data governance sets this default behavior for your account.

Set the conflict behavior

  1. Open Settings, Master data, then Data governance.
  2. In Default conflict behavior, choose an option.

The choice is saved right away.

The three options

  • Merge by priority (default option): the sources’ values are combined.
  • Source wins: the value brought by the source replaces the existing value.
  • Keep existing value: the value already present is kept; the source only fills in what is missing.

Settings at the level of each source

This behavior is your account’s default rule. Two settings apply at the level of a source:

  • A connected platform shows its own rule in Conflict resolution, on its page in Sources.
  • Each file import asks you, at the Filters step, what happens to Data already present. See choose what is imported.

Good to know

  • Whatever the option, a value you validated by hand or a generated value is never overwritten by an import.
  • Ranking sources by reliability is not available yet.
  • To go back to a replaced value, use the product’s modification history.
