Import a spreadsheet

The steps of an Excel or CSV file import, from upload to launch, and what is checked at each one.

Importing a spreadsheet creates or updates your products in the master data from an Excel or CSV file. The import takes place in the discussion, in four stages: reading, mapping, filters, launch.

Drop the file

  1. Click Add on the Products or Sources page.
  2. Drag your file into the Drop your files area, or click Browse.

You can also attach the spreadsheet directly in the discussion with Marcus: a file sent without an instruction opens the import.

1. Reading

Marcus shows “Reading the file”, then summarizes what he found: the file type, the number of columns and rows, and the share of New products and products Already in catalog. The View these products link opens the products already known.

If the file has the same columns as an earlier upload, the existing mapping applies on its own.

2. Mapping

Each column of the file is matched to a field of your master data. Marcus proposes the matches; you check the ones that need it. Details in field mapping.

3. Filters

You choose which products to import and what happens to values already present. The estimate block shows how many products will be imported. Details in choose what is imported.

4. Launch

Click Start import. Progress is shown as a percentage, then the import report sums up the result.

Good to know

  • An import is free: it consumes no credits.
  • Upsellr finds the header row on its own within the first 25 rows of the file. Title, season or contact rows placed above the table are ignored.
  • Nothing is imported until you have validated.
  • An import never overwrites a value that was validated by hand or generated.
  • New products can take a few seconds to appear in the grid.
