Workflows: chain enrichment and generation

The blocks, their order, validation between two steps, tiered tests, publishing and a workflow's history.

A workflow chains the steps applied to your products: enrich, then generate. Each of Marcus’s proposals is a workflow, which you open with Show the workflow.

The blocks and their order

A workflow has only two types of blocks:

  • Enrichment: Lily fills in the master data.
  • Generation: Max writes each channel’s product pages, in all its languages.

Enrichment comes before generation. A generation can be followed by another generation, but by nothing else. Import is not a block: it happens beforehand.

Between two steps

On the canvas, each step has a Step exit, which says what happens before the next one:

  • Automatic: the next step starts as soon as the previous one is finished.
  • Human validation: the run stops there. The products wait for your review in “To validate”. The next step will be a new run, on the products you have validated.

A reusable workflow

Ask Marcus to create a workflow you will run again. He asks a few questions, assembles the blocks, then the workflow opens on its own page, with the Editor, Tests and Runs tabs. Your changes are saved automatically.

Test in tiers

Before running a workflow on a whole catalog, test it in Tests & publishing:

  1. Define 1 to 3 tiers, each with a number of products.
  2. Click Launch test and choose the tier’s products.
  3. Click Review results, then validate to move on to the next tier.

The workflow stays “In test” until all the tiers are validated. It is then published automatically. You can also click Publish.

Statuses and history

  • Statuses: “In test”, “Active”, “Paused”, “Archived”.
  • The Actions menu offers Run now, Pause, Duplicate, Save as template and Archive.
  • Version history lets you Restore a previous version.
  • Execution history lists each run.

Good to know

  • Tests consume credits like a normal run.
  • Changing the test configuration resets the tiers already validated.
  • A run launches the published version: unpublished changes are not taken into account.
  • Only the Manual trigger is available. The Scheduled and On an event triggers are not available yet.
  • The workflows provided by Upsellr carry the System badge: their trigger is fixed and their blocks cannot be deleted.
  • An archived workflow is deleted automatically after 60 days.
  • Custom workflows are available from the Scale plan: see our plans.
